Renting out your home to make a little extra money is seen as a profit in the eyes of the IRS. Therefore you will have to report your rental income on your tax return each year.

  1. We currently have a friend from church lodging (though more just living in our lounge). Luckily in the UK you can earn up to £4,250 a year tax-free by having a lodger/tenant in your own home. So for us that means as we get under this threshold we get to keep all the money 🙂
